Email Marketing

Many of our customers ask whether they could import their own EDM (Electronic Direct Mailer) design or email marketing design into Constant Contact email marketing system?

The answer is “Yes” but provided the design must first be converted into HTML format. If your EDM design is in one large piece of image, it should be cropped into smaller pieces for optimization and re-assemble into HTML for better rendering in Email Clients (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and Hotmail) and browsers.

Once your EDM design is in HTML format, follow the below steps to import your design into Constant Contact.

  1. At the Constant Contact dashboard, click on the top right orange “Create” button to start creating your email.
  2. On the pop-up screen, click on “Email” to start.
  3. When you are asked to select a template, click on the “Custom Code” on the right right corner instead to proceed.
  4. Next, type in a Name for your email.
  5. Enter a name and click the button “Next” to proceed.
  6. On the next screen when it asks you to select an Email Format, click on “HTML”.
  7. Click on the orange button “Next” to go to next screen.
  8. Enter the “Subject” name and fill in the rest of the information.
  9. On the left hand panel, look for “Advanced Editor” and click on it.
  10. On the next screen, it will ask you to input HTML, look for the texts <!—START — >
    and <!—END — > in the box.
  11. Go to your EDM design, copy the html code and paste it between <!—START — >
    and <!—END — >.
  12. Scroll to the bottom and click on the orange button “Save & Return” to save.
  13. Then on the left hand panel, click on the grey button “Preview & Test” to preview your html code.
  14. The preview will appear in a pop-up window and you can send a test version to yourself or your colleagues for viewing.
  15. Click on the box “Send a Test version” and enter the email addresses.
    (If you have more than one email to send to, separate them with a comma).
  16. Click on the “Send” button to send the test copy.
  17. If you are satisfied with the preview, you can close the preview window by clicking the “Close Window” on the top right corner of the pop-up box.
  18. However, if you need further fine-tuning, you can close the window and click on “Advanced Editor” to edit.
  19. Once you are satisfied with the changes, you can click on the “Next” button to finish the personalization and footer setting.
  20. When you are done, you can select a mailing list and are ready to send it out.
