After you have sent out your newsletter, the next step is to know how did your newsletter perform? You must have tons of questions in your mind. For example, the questions as below.

  • Did the newsletter sent out successfully?
  • Will you get any email delivery confirmation after sending out?
  • Did it ended up in the recipients’ inbox or junk box?
  • Was the content too spamy?
  • Did anyone open and click on your newsletter?
  • Who have unsubscribed?
  • Or how many recipeints have forwarded your newsletter to their co-workers, friends and community?

To answer all your questions, Constant Contact has a free email delivery reporting feature that allows you to check the performance of your newsletter online. Constant Contact has grouped its email marketing delivery metrics into seven main categories. The categories are defined as follow by Constant Contact.

  • Sent: The total emails sent, including bounces.
  • Bounces: Emails sent, but not received by your contacts.
  • Spam Reports: Number of complaints received from an email.
  • Opt-Outs: Contacts who moved themselves to your Do Not Mail List.
  • Opens: Trackable emails your contacts received and viewed.
  • Clicks: Contacts who clicked from an email to your website.
  • Forwards: Number of times the email was forwarded using the Forward Email to a Friend link.

The email marketing delivery metrics will help you to improve the success rate of your email deliverability. Each individual metrics will let you know whether you are doing your newsletter right. For example if you have a high open and click through rate, that means your subject title and content are well liked by your recipients.

If, however, the opt-outs rate and spam rate are high, you need to reconsider a revamp on your newsletter and management of relationship with your mailing list. In addition, if you have high bounce rate, it means you need to do some good housekeeping for your mailing list. Do a massive clean up and check for typo error, validity of email address or domain name. These are the common reasons for high bounce rate.

Finally, you can print out the report physically or save it as PDF format if you have Adobe Acrobat installed. You can then email the PDF copy to your boss or management for evaluation.
